Have you had this familiar experience? You are walking around Baltimore and catch a glimpse inside a beautiful building that you have always wanted to visit. Even though the lights are on, the building isn’t open to just anyone, so you resign yourself to never seeing inside and keep on walking…
On Saturday, October 22, that won’t be the case! With Doors Open Baltimore, you will have the chance to see inside buildings, behind curtains and around corners that aren’t always open. On this one-day, self-guided adventure 61 sites around Baltimore City will be open free of charge to the general public. Sites such as the Baltimore Under Ground Science Space, Atwater’s Big Kitchen, the McKim Free School, and the Duchess of Windsor Museum will be open and excited to see you.
Still a little confused? Think of it this way – each site functions as an open house. Drop in any time between 10am-4pm to explore the site and learn about its history. Architects and design professionals volunteering for the event will be at select sites to engage with visitors and dozens of special events including walking, biking and bus tours, lectures and a photo contest will take place throughout the day.

The day of the event you can stop by the headquarter site at the Maryland Historical Society for the most up to date information and to pick up a printed guide. Doors Open Baltimore is hosted by the Baltimore Architecture Foundation, in partnership with AIABaltimore, and will be held rain or shine.
