Preservation Maryland is currently recruiting for a Corps Manager, a full-time, 12-month term position to join our team and lead the Campaign for Historic Trades‘ new public service corps, PreserveCorps.
Organization Background
Founded in 1931, Preservation Maryland has been a leader in the preservation movement of the state and nation ever since. The organization’s mission is the preservation of Maryland’s historic buildings, neighborhoods, landscapes and archeological sites through outreach, funding, and advocacy.
Preservation Maryland achieves its mission through an expanding group of core programs. The organization provides leadership to a large coalition of individuals and organizations at the state, county, city, and community level that advocate for critical causes. The organization’s podcast reaches tens of thousands of listeners annually and has produced over 140 episodes since its launch. Additionally, the organization hosts more than a dozen events, large and small, which provide training, award recognition and professional development to historic communities and their leaders. Each year the organization also selects six at-risk historic properties or programs for targeted assistance and support.
Preservation Maryland also leads Smart Growth Maryland, a dynamic new program which advocates for state and local policy priorities that directs new public and private investment in keeping with the principles of smart growth. The organization partners with Maryland’s leading historic preservation, environmental conservation and land preservation organizations to help achieve this mission.
The organization also makes flexible grants to support the preservation of Maryland history and historic properties in partnership with local nonprofit organizations, community groups and churches. A historic property redevelopment program now allows the organization to take direct action to protect threatened historic properties through acquisition, loans and partnerships.
Most recently, the organization became the charitable partner of the National Park Service’s Historic Preservation Training Center. This partnership, operating as a program called the Campaign for Historic Trades allows the organization to support the advancement of historic trades training which can open pathways to successful careers for young adults and returning veterans.

Position Description
This is a full-time, 12-month term position which will manage the day-to-day operations of The Campaign for Historic Trades’ new trades training corps. The program works with the National Park Service’s Traditional Trades Apprenticeship Program (TTAP) to place trainees (ages 18 – 30 and veterans up to 35 years old). The organization also coordinates with multiple trades’ schools and park units across the country to place the apprentices, and works closely with the NPS Historic Preservation Training Center (HPTC).
This is a full-time, 12-month (with excellent opportunity for continued employment dependent on meeting revenue goals) exempt position that requires a minimum of three years of professional experience. Demonstrated practical experience with AmeriCorps programs is required. Experience specifically in historic preservation and/or construction trades are a plus.
Preservation Maryland provides a generous benefits package including health insurance, retirement, vacations, holidays and a flexible work schedule. Compensation will be between $45,000 and $55,000, commensurate with experience.
Responsibilities
The Corps Manager will be a liaison between Preservation Maryland and its program partners: the HPTC, The Corps Network, trades schools, partnering National Parks, and corps members. This position will coordinate the placement and relationship of corps members in national parks.
Specific responsibilities will include:
- Hire and manage 12-15 corps members for the HPTC TTAP.
- Solicit National Parks for the TTAP and place corps members at parks for six-month terms.
- Cultivate partnerships with preservation trades schools to coordinate with placement and education of the Campaign for Historic Trades Corps.
- Ensure corps activities meet the regulations set by funding sources, The Corps Network, and the TTAP.
- Develop marketing and outreach material related to the program, working with PM’s communications director.
- Assist the Historic Trades Program Manager in related educational program development.
- Develop written materials to assist with fundraising & outreach.
- Create written content for web/social media to promote program.
- Willingness and ability to travel and engage in limited weekend and evening work.
- Other duties as assigned.
