Preservation Maryland is pleased to announce the hire of Maria Mougridis as Preservation Initiatives Manager. Maria will oversee the Heritage Fund Grant Program, the selection of the Harrison Goodall Fellowships in partnership with the National Park Service, and the coordination and logistics for virtual and in-person educational gatherings.
Mougridis will also support individuals, organizations, and municipalities with technical assistance on complex projects and oversee grant-funded special projects, including battlefield preservation, land protection, and archaeological investigations.
“We are thrilled to welcome Maria to our team,” said Preservation Maryland President & CEO Nicholas Redding. “Maria’s experience in the historic preservation field and passion for the work is an asset to our organization and our partners.”
Previously, Maria worked with the Texas Historical Commission as the Certified Local Government Specialist where she worked with local government officials and designated CLG representatives on program-related matters, identify training needs, and formally evaluate the local government participation in the program. In this role she also provided consultative and technical assistance on a variety of topics such as design guidelines, architectural surveys and inventories, National Register nominations, planning and zoning, and local ordinances. She has a bachelor’s degree in history and political science from Stephen F. Austin State University, as well as a master’s degree in public history with a focus in historic preservation from Southeast Missouri State University.
Born and raised in Texas, Maria has always had a deep passion for traveling to new places to learn about the local history. This passion led her down the path of historic preservation and helping others save the places that matter to them. Maria is beyond thrilled to be in Maryland and learn more about the state’s history and help preserve the places that matter.
