This Tuesday, dozens of Marylanders joined together in Annapolis to deliver a strong message of the importance of historic preservation to the health and wealth of our Old Line State.
Preservation Maryland is proud to convene this annual meeting of advocates that has shown demonstrated results in increasing funding and support for Maryland’s heritage from the administration and legislature.
Our major asks included:
- For the first time in seven years, the Governor’s budget includes funding for historic preservation grants funds. Now we need legislator’s support to protect those funds.
- Supporting HB864 Distribution of Marriage Ceremony Fees that would redirect a portion of marriage ceremony fees to a statewide preservation grant fund.
- Support HB267/SB257 Program Open Space – Authorized Transfer to the Maryland Heritage Areas Authority Financing Fund – Increase
to increase the funding cap to the Maryland Heritage Area program to $6 million. - With federal tax reform on the horizon, the federal historic tax credit is threatened. We’ve asked Maryland elected officials to sign-on to a letter to Congress in support of this economic development program.
Thank you to all of our advocates who committed to the day, and each and every legislator and their staff for their time. And a special thanks to Historic Annapolis for hosting us at the Paca House, and our agency partners at the Maryland Historical Trust.
