Preservation Maryland is recruiting for a 3-month paid internship that will be based at the South Mountain State Battlefield in Frederick/Washington County, Maryland. This unique internship will focus on researching and interpreting underrepresented and untold stories of the battlefield, with a focus on the experiences and lives of African American women and children. Interns will work closely with the site historian and will be managed by staff of the Maryland Park Service.
The selected intern will research history of the battlefield with a focus on underrepresented stories, publish short blogs to highlight the history and provide short, interpretive talks to site visitors. This public history internship is a first for the battlefield in partnership with Preservation Maryland and the Maryland Park Service.

Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis with the intention of filling the position for the summer 2022 season (May-August). Exact timing is flexible depending on intern schedule, classes, etc.

South Mountain Battlefield State Park (nearby towns include Boonsboro, Middletown, Burkttsville, Brunswick & Frederick).
Compensation
Preservation Maryland will provide an hourly wage starting at $12.50/hour. Roughly 27 hours/week is anticipated. Park housing may also be available.
