Cranberry Bread (Holidays)
Adapted from the “Ladies of Saint Mary’s Cook Book,” Saint Mary’s Church, Annapolis, MD 1976.
Ingredients
- 2 cups sifted flour
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp soda
- 1/4 cup shortening
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1/2 cup orange juice
- 1/2 cup walnuts
- 1 cup raw cranberries, cut in half
Instructions
- Combine flour, salt & soda.
- Mix shortening, sugar, egg & juice.
- Add to flour mixture.
- Stir in cranberries & walnuts.
- Bake in greased loaf pan at 350 degrees for 1 hour and 10 minutes (or less).
- While bread is warm, wrap in wax paper & store in refrigerator — will keep for several weeks.
- (Good idea to double.)
