Internship Details
Preservation Maryland seeks applicants for its Smart Growth Summer Internship. It is a temporary, part-time intern position for at least 3 months at approximately 10-20 hours per week. Based in Baltimore, Maryland, but we are currently working remotely due to the COVID-19 restrictions. The position will be paid at an hourly rate of $11.75/hour and is not eligible for benefits.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
This position will work on Smart Growth Maryland with the Advocacy Associate. Preservation Maryland leads Smart Growth Maryland, a dynamic program that advocates for state and local policy priorities that direct new public and private investment in keeping with the principles of smart growth.
Our mission is to create a more environmentally and economically sustainable future that creates opportunities for all Marylanders through better policies. The organization partners with Maryland’s leading historic preservation, environmental conservation, and land preservation organizations to help achieve this mission.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work with the Advocacy Associate to review and edit smart growth content
- Write blog posts on interesting stories/places about Smart Growth programs regularly. See our blog and/or Facebook page for examples.
- Update social media and website content
- Perform other duties as assigned
TOPICS MAY INCLUDE
- Researching smart growth and urban planning issues in the region and state
- Compile a list of inter-faith and ethnic organizations that tackle environmental issues
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Experience in video/photo editing
- Writing blog/social media posts
- Familiarity with social media
- Proficient in online historic research
- Passion for and have a background in sustainability, historic preservation, and smart growth
Compensation
The position will be paid at an hourly rate of $11.75/hour and is not eligible for benefits.
