Preservation Maryland Executive Director Nicholas Redding offered the following statement following the passing of Maryland Speaker of the House, Mike Busch:
The entire staff, Board and membership of Preservation Maryland join with the rest of the state in remembering and honoring Mike Busch, Maryland’s longest tenured Speaker of the House. Among the many causes he defended and championed, he will be fondly remembered by preservationists for his steadfast support of funding to protect important historic sites in Annapolis and throughout the state. From the Paca House to the Brice House and the historic statehouse itself, the history of Maryland is better protected because of his concern and commitment. The Speaker was also a passionate champion of the environment including Program Open Space, which saved thousands of acres of critical natural, cultural and historic resources during his tenure and thanks to his unflagging support.
To paraphrase the oft quoted epitaph of Sir Christopher Wren: If you seek Mike Busch’s monument, look around you.
