Learn Baltimore City history is as little as 5 minutes a day!
Baltimore Heritage, Inc., Baltimore’s small and mighty historic preservation organization, has been releasing new videos about Charm City history for the past couple of weeks and have just surpassed two dozen videos. Each five-minute video is narrated by their long-time Executive Director, Johns Hopkins, with a help from his in-house videographer, 15-year-old, and edited by their Director of Preservation & Communications, Molly Ricks.
So far, the Baltimore landmarks highlighted and heros illuminated in the series are from a variety of eras and topics, like Civil Rights history, mercantile history, immigration history, religious history, and a whole lot more, including:
- Baltimore’s Painted Screens
- Historic Clubs on Pennsylvania Avenue
- The Old Town Mall
- LGBTQ History
- Patterson Park and the War of 1812
Baltimore Heritage is known for its outreach efforts including Local Preservation 101, Explore Baltimore Heritage online maps and mobile app, and plentiful in-person tours. With their tours paused at least through May, the organization’s past and current work to provide public history in a multitude of accessible formats has come in handy. From their website, “Although we sorely wish we could be out and about with you in person, please stay safe and check us out online each day as we try to bring a new historic site to you.”
