I joined Preservation Maryland as Director of Development this summer, amidst a global pandemic, civil unrest, and a presidential election on the horizon. In these past few tumultuous months, one thing is clear – history is happening.
Preservation Maryland does not just preserve that history. We actively participate in projects and programs that illuminate new angles to age-old interpretations of past events and we maximize the value of our historic communities through revitalization efforts.
Our work has not stopped and it has not slowed. In fact, our organization has taken on many firsts recently:
- We’ve made our first revolving fund property purchase in 40 years and are already seeking new projects to tackle.
- Our battlefield preservation program is protecting and promoting the most hallowed ground of our state.
- We released the state’s first official LGBTQ historical document, joining only a handful of organizations to do so.
- Our grant programs supported museums and historic sites facing closures and lost revenue – when they needed us most.
And now, I need you. As a fellow Marylander, can I count on you to help save the heart of our historic communities?
Annual support from our generous members allows Preservation Maryland to advocate for historic buildings, neighborhoods, and landscapes throughout Maryland, offer important educational programming, and to provide grants to directly preserve the best of Maryland.
As detailed in the recently passed recovery bill, if you take the standard deduction on your taxes and you give $300 to charity, you’ll get a $300 tax break in addition to the standard deduction ($12,400 for individuals and $24,800 for married couples filing jointly). While I am not providing tax advice, I really want you to know about this giving opportunity and have made a $300 giving level on our secure online donation form.
Your gift directly supports the preservation of Maryland’s irreplaceable heritage — and helps revitalize the heart of our historic communities.
Also, if you give $500 or more, you will receive a special salvaged memento from our Jonathan Street property – a historic cut nail from a wall that required deconstruction and repair. It will be a powerful reminder of resilience, history, and your investment in our future.
I hope you’ll make this gift because you know that:
- Preservation Maryland has earned a Gold Seal of Transparency from GuideStar and your donation is tax-deductible.
- Preservation Maryland is a trustworthy non-profit that has an 89-year track record of success.
- Preservation Maryland does what we say we will – every year we make promises to our donors and we deliver on them.
- Your support will unlock thousands of dollars in matching grants we’ve lined up – and will help save more history.
- Preservation Maryland is ambitious, innovative, and tackling projects big-and-small, at the local, regional, and national levels.
