The Biden administration recently announced the launch of the American Climate Corps (ACC), a workforce training and service initiative that will ensure more young people have access to the skills-based training necessary for good-paying careers in clean energy and climate resilience. Sound familiar? Our workforce development program The Campaign for Historic Trades works to expand – through training and clear pathways – and strengthen careers in the high-demand field of historic trades.
The American Climate Corps will mobilize a new, diverse generation of more than 20,000 Americans – putting them to work conserving and restoring our lands and waters, bolstering community resilience, deploying clean energy, implementing energy efficient technologies, and advancing environmental justice, all while creating pathways to high-quality, good-paying clean energy and climate resilience jobs in the public and private sectors after they complete their paid training program.
THERE’S AN EMPHASIS ON BUILDING CAREER PATHWAYS, NOT JUST JOBS.
The Campaign for Historic Trades has the same strategy, and recruits for a variety of National Park Service paid, hands-on opportunities.
The Campaign is also well into the process of registering apprenticeships in the historic building trades, which are currently being reviewed by the Department of Labor.
STRENGTHENING OUR COMMUNITIES
Potential corps projects could include some of the National Park Service’s needed repairs. Our As the charitable partner of the National Park Service through our work with the Historic Preservation Training Center, there is clear alignment between missions and the potential for big impact on preservation trades training in parks.
