The legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. will be celebrated today at events across the state. Dr. King, who delivered several speeches in Baltimore during the 1960s about the importance of civil rights, economic equality, and the power of nonviolent protest, is the only non-president with a federal holiday named in his honor.
Here are some of the events you may consider attending as we recognize Dr. King’s impact and work to end segregation:
- MLK Jr. Day at the Museum of Historic Annapolis: From 11:00 am to 3:00 pm, the Museum of Historic Annapolis at 99 Main Street will feature activities such as guided tours of the “Annapolis: An American Story” exhibition, a Freedom Bell craft workshop, and a special exhibit on the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and Annapolis activism. Admission is $7 for individuals aged 8 and above; free for members, children 7 and under, and SNAP/WIC recipients. Historic Annapolis
