We know that having a viable use for a historic structure is a key component to it’s preservation, but that mounting an adaptive reuse project has inherent challenges from finding financing to finding a tenant. Preservation Maryland’s Summer School attendees interested in adaptive reuse will learn much from Heather Arnold from Streetsense, an international integrated architecture, development, and branding firm.

Heather Arnold from Streetsense, an international integrated development company, will lead our afternoon group session at Preservation Maryland’s Summer School on Thursday,  July 21, 2016 from 8:30am-4:30pm+ in Frederick, Maryland.

Heather has an undergraduate Architectural History degree from the University of Virginia and a Master’s of City and Regional Planning from Cornell University. As the Director of Research and Analysis, Heather will share her expert advice and experience for getting adaptive reuse projects off the ground and how her views on historic preservation policy have changed over time.

Also of great interest to preservationists, especially Main Streets and Heritage Areas, Arnold leads the Vibrant Streets project, an initiative that provides neighborhoods the tools and framework necessary to create vibrant commercial districts, regardless of population, ethnic composition, location, income, or budget. The VibrantStreets initiative was formed to propagate and share the methodology and publications Arnold created in working with more than a dozen neighborhoods in Washington, DC.

Please come prepared with your good questions about meeting challenges to reuse historic properties to revitalize Maryland communities.
