In partnership with the U.S. Department of Transportation Maritime Administration, the National Park Service recently awarded $2.6 million in maritime heritage grants to assist funding 34 preservation and education projects — four of those projects are in Maryland totaling over $330,000 in grant support.
ANNAPOLIS MARITIME MUSEUM AND PARK
ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY
The Annapolis Maritime Museum and Park was awarded $37,000 to create a new permanent exhibit: “White Gold: The Lure and Legacy of the Maryland Oyster.” Located in Annapolis, the Maritime Museum’s goal is to educate people about Annapolis’s role in maritime history whilst placing an emphasis on the ecology of the Chesapeake Bay Region through programs, exhibits, and community events.
BALTIMORE CHILDREN’S MUSEUM

The Baltimore Children’s Museum was awarded $50,000 for the new Port of Baltimore exhibit at Port Discovery Children’s Museum. Located in Baltimore City, Port Discovery is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to our mission of educating children and inspiring life-long curiosity.
CHESAPEAKE BAY MARITIME MUSEUM
ST. Michaels, TALBOT COUNTY
The Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum was awarded $45,845 for the recently restored boat named Edna E. Lockwood to take an education tour of the Chesapeake Bay. The Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum was founded in 1965 on Navy Point on Maryland’s Eastern Shore. The Museum is dedicated to preserving and exploring the history, environment and people of the Chesapeake Bay.
PROJECT LIBERTY SHIP
BALTIMORE CITY
The nonprofit Project Liberty Ship was awarded $200,000 for the preservation of the hull and underwater portions of SS John W. Brown. Located in Baltimore City, Project Liberty Ship was founded 30 years ago as an organization dedicated to educating by preserving and operating the John W. Brown as a living memorial to the men and women who built the great Liberty Fleet and to the merchant seamen and Naval Armed Guard who sailed the ships.
