The Pleasant View Historic Site is comprised of the Quince Orchard Colored School, the Pleasant View Methodist Episcopal Church, and the Pleasant View Cemetery – each different resource with different needs for preservation. The trustees and community are launching a $1 million dollar fundraising campaign to address those needs.
The Pleasant View Historic Site invites families to help celebrate a special anniversary and learn more about Montgomery County’s unique history. In April 1868, shortly after the Civil War, three black men bought three acres of land in Gaithersburg, Maryland to establish a church and school for the spiritual and educational needs of the African American community. This year we celebrate the 150th Anniversary of that land purchase and honor the role this site has played in our community. As part of the celebration, speakers will share the history and significance of the Pleasant View Site and the surrounding community of Quince Orchard.

Over the course of an our multi-year Six-to-Fix engagement, Preservation Maryland has assisted the Trustees of the Historic Site in developing a strategic plan with Patricia Williams, a preservation consultant that works throughout Maryland. Preservation Maryland also called on structural engineers from Keast & Hood (now Simpson Gumpertz & Heger), to conduct a structural conditions assessment to outline the preservation priorities of each resource. These are now guiding documents for the Trustees to kick-off their fundraising campaign.
