In spring 2018, Preservation Maryland’s Heritage Grant Fund provided a $5,000 grant to the Downtown Frederick Partnership to support the creation of a preservation education toolkit.

Specifically, the $5,000 grant supported the creation of an Education Tool Kit to help answer some of the most common questions about the historic district. The brochures, which are available online and in print, were designed to address the needs of specific audiences including residents, merchants, and professionals.

In late December 2018, the Downtown Frederick Partnership and City of Frederick Historic Preservation Commission released three new brochures funded by the grant. The brochures will be freely distributed by the Downtown Frederick Partnership, the City of Frederick, and many other preservation partners.

The toolkit and brochures are part of a broader effort in Frederick to encourage revitalization and reuse of the downtown historic district — and to educate citizens, business owners and contractors on how the local preservation ordinance works.

The Heritage Fund is a cooperative effort of Preservation Maryland and the Maryland Historical Trust to provide direct assistance for the protection of historical and cultural resources in Maryland. The program funds innovative demonstrative projects that can be successfully replicated to meet the Old Line State’s historic preservation needs.
