After a year of immense challenges and change, Preservation Maryland has emerged more determined than ever before.
As a small nonprofit dependent on grants, corporate funding and individual giving, the economic impact of the pandemic has greatly affected our organization. Yet, you have continued to support us and our important mission of preservation — and for that we are forever grateful.
This year is not only a year of further expansion and growth, it is also our 90th anniversary! Since our founding in 1931 we have been a staunch voice in the preservation movement. Our storied journey began with the objective of preserving the historical objects of Maryland, and we have done that and so much more.
Whether it is through the ever-growing Campaign for Historic Trades, our award-winning podcast PreserveCast, the Historic Property Redevelopment Program, our advocacy work or the deployment of Smart Growth programs, we are at the forefront of the preservation movement.
Communities around the state are counting on us, and we intend on investing in our work at a time when Maryland must honor history and focus on economic recovery. The hardships of the past year have reminded us all how vital it is to never stop learning from our past and the importance of investing in our communities. The world around is a place full of innovation and progress – but we must remember our roots.
History defines us. History empowers us. History supports us. History teaches us. With 90 years of preservation work under our belt, we continue to make lasting change in Maryland’s communities.
Preservation has been said to engage the present in a conversation about the past for the benefit of the future. History remains a guide, beckoning us back with lessons for the days ahead. By supporting Preservation Maryland, you are ensuring preservationists can give those lessons a place to live on.
