First Day Hikes are a great way to start the New Year in a fun and healthy way. Maryland Park Service rangers, staff, and volunteers will lead more than 30 hikes on public lands and state parks New Year’s Day.

Did you know!? A recent survey placed visiting historic sites second only to walking for the top reasons why Marylanders visit their State Parks!

  • Judy Johnson Memorial Beach Walk at Assateague State Park
  • Fossil Hike at Calvert Cliffs State Park
  • Bird Walk at Chapman State Park
  • Guided Sunset Hike at Gambrill State Park
  • Bike the Torrey C. Brown Rail Trail at Gunpowder Falls State Park
  • Life of Harriet Tubman Tour at Underground Railroad State Park
  • Tree Huggers Hike at Martinak State Park
  • Winter Rocks Spectacular Hike at Rocks State Park

The Maryland State Parks stewards more of the state’s historic and architectural resources than any other entity. Through our Six-to-Fix program, Preservation Maryland will work to help identify, document, and prioritize the needs of these resources in the face of a limited budget and large project backlog.
