What should the next chapter of the South Mountain House look like?
For more than 200 years, this historic property—most recently known as the Old South Mountain Inn—has evolved to meet the needs of the people it serves. It has been a stagecoach inn and tavern, summer resort, Civil War headquarters, private residence, religious retreat, tourist camp, and restaurant.
Now, the South Mountain House is ready for its next chapter and your voice can help shape what comes next.
Join the Maryland Department of Natural Resources and Preservation Maryland for a community Open House to learn more about the project, share your ideas, and help ensure the building’s future reflects the history, character, and needs of the South Mountain region.
