Preservation Maryland is pleased to announce the launch of the Revolving Loan Fund, a new financing resource designed to help preserve and revitalize historic commercial buildings in Maryland’s downtowns.

Historic Main Streets are the economic and cultural heart of communities across the state. They are where local businesses grow, neighbors gather, and historic buildings continue to serve new generations. Yet many preservation projects face the same challenge: securing the flexible financing needed to move from planning to construction.

The Preservation Maryland Revolving Loan Fund was created to help address that need by providing financing for preservation-focused rehabilitation projects in Maryland’s traditional downtowns. By investing in historic commercial buildings, the fund will help strengthen local economies, support small businesses, and preserve the character that makes Maryland’s Main Streets unique.

This new initiative expands Preservation Maryland’s toolbox for community revitalization and our broader efforts to provide technical assistance, grant funding, and advocacy for historic places throughout the state. Together, these resources help communities tackle preservation projects at every stage, from planning and design to implementation.

If you’re planning a rehabilitation project in a historic downtown and are exploring financing options, we encourage you to learn more about the Revolving Loan Fund, including eligibility requirements and the application process.

Historic downtowns thrive when we invest in the buildings that define them. We’re excited to partner with communities across Maryland to help preserve these places while creating opportunities for continued economic growth and revitalization.
