To celebrate and highlight the contributions of UMD to the fields of architecture, planning and preservation in Maryland, the program will host a “MAPP of the Future: A Research and Creative Practice Symposium” on Friday, April 13, 2018.

Did you know? Founding and early documents from Preservation Maryland are archived at the University of Maryland’s Hornbake Library. In 2017, the collection was evaluated and portions cataloged. Our contributions to the collection are on-going and include documents, photographs, slides, and soon digital materials. It is available for research by appointment.

The Symposium will highlight the contributions of our faculty, students, and alumni in celebration of the School’s 50th anniversary. Papers and posters will address various topics related to design, planning, development and conservation of the built environment, at the intersection of culture and nature. Our faculty will be joined by research colleagues from schools and departments around campus, including American Studies, the Academy for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, the Robert H. Smith School of Business, the START program in Terrorism Studies and the School of Public Health.
